SITES

One fundamental aspect of work done by Tees Valley RIGS Group involves compiling a Catalogue of Geodiversity which covers our area of operation - Geodiversity being the variety of rocks, fossils and unconsolidated deposits making up the district.

To date this database contains in excess of one hundred geological localities, ranging from minor road- or stream-side exposures to landforms like Roseberry Topping covering many hectares.

Cleveland Map

The RIGS group assesses each site and have so far identified thirty-four of these as being regionally important. A list of designated RIG sites is given on the map (above) and in the table (below) with links to further information where this is available.

New sites will be mentioned in our newsletter as-and-when they arise before, appearing here.
